The Island

Sicily – Fiery and soulful

Sicily is the Mediterranean's largest and most captivating island — a place where ancient Greek temples stand against azure skies, where the smouldering cone of Mount Etna dominates the horizon, and where centuries of Arabic, Norman, and Baroque culture have fused into something utterly unique.

The island's food is legendary: arancini, fresh seafood, blood-orange granita, and pistachios from Bronte. Every village has its feast day, its procession of saints, its handmade pasta and fiercely guarded recipes.

The south-east corner — the Val di Noto — is the jewel in Sicily's crown. Rebuilt after the catastrophic 1693 earthquake in the most exuberant Baroque style ever seen, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. Towns like Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Modica, and Scicli feel like stage sets for a Visconti film.

The beaches of the Ionian and Mediterranean coasts are within easy reach: white sands at Vendicari Nature Reserve, the crystal waters of Calamosche, and the fishing harbour of Marzamemi — all less than 30 minutes away.

Your Hosts

We Love This Place
We Want You to Love It Too

Sicily was never just a holiday for us. It was the place we kept coming back to — in our minds, in our plans, and eventually in our lives. When we found Casa Bandello in Noto, we knew.

We are not from here, which means we remember exactly what it felt like to arrive for the first time: the light that hits the baroque stone in the late afternoon, the smell of orange blossom in spring, the way time seems to slow down without you asking it to. We still feel it. And the moment we enjoy most — the one that never gets old — is when a guest tells us they felt it too.

That is what we are here for. Not just to hand over the keys, but to share the place we love. The trattoria the locals keep to themselves. The beach you will not find on any list. The Sicilian habits worth picking up.

Casa Bandello is our home. We are glad it is yours, for a while.

Silvia & Attila Noto, Sicily
